Pluto IS a planet!
As usual, 826 Seattle is making intergalactic headlines this month. Dedicating March as Pluto Month, 826ers took the opportunity to protest the International Astronomical Union’s demotion of Pluto by participating in their 3rd annual "Pluto IS a Planet" march. In 2006, the tiny planet was denounced to merely a dwarf planet. A dwarf planet!
You can imagine the outrage of 826 Seattle, which also happens to be Greenwood’s Space Travel Supply Store.
On March 13th, 826 Seattle students, volunteers, and Pluto enthusiasts marched through the city, and journalists were quick to report on the rally. Phinneywood.com helped round up protesters by spreading the Greenwood Space Travel Supply’s message of refusing “to bow to this outrageous decree.” MSNBC Cosmic Log’s author, Alan Boyle, mentions the “indignities suffered by the dwarf planet.” Even Seattle’s Astronomy Examiner, Greg Schiederer, wrote about the protest, recording such student chants as “The flame of justice, we must fan it; we say Pluto is a planet!”
With such a strong public showing, we can't help being inspired by 826 Seattle’s passion to see justice for Pluto. In the words of the icy body's heartfelt activists, “Science is wrong; Pluto belongs!”
