World Book Night encourages bedtime stories around the globe
April 23 marks the celebration of World Book Night, a unique effort to promote literacy. Started by several publishing companies to spread a love of reading and books, the initiative called on people to select thirty books to donate to institutions in need. Participants then organized local donation drives in 6,000 towns and cities across the globe. The chosen books included works from writers such as Maya Angelou, Sherman Alexie, and Khaled Hosseini, and they’re being donated to hospitals, women's shelters, schools, and even 826 Valencia in San Francisco! We’re always excited about efforts to inspire reading. Who knows? Maybe a future literary star will be inspired by a work he or she picks up today.
