Celebrate youth literacy on 8/26 Day!

826 student writer826 Day is finally upon us! That's right, today is August 26 (or 8/26 - which, if you remove the slash, becomes 826!). In an awesome coincidence, today is also National Youth Literacy Day! Besides greeting everyone you know with "Happy 826 Day," there are numerous ways to join us in spreading awareness about National Youth Literacy Day and 826’s programs for under-resourced students. How about:

  1. Becoming an 826 student for the day! Join our ranks of newly-published authors over at 826on826.org. For today's prompt, we're asking writers to pen robot love poems! We'll publish your poem online so you can revel in your accomplishment and share it with friends. And the very best piece of the day will receive our grand prize: five signed books from notable authors Elizabeth Gilbert, Darin Strauss, Myla Goldberg, Ayelet Waldman, and Daniel Johnson!
  2. Following us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or whatever social media site you kids are using these days.
  3. Making a donation to 826 National to help us support our writing and tutoring programs for nearly 30,000 students across the country.
  4. Checking out your local 826 chapter, many of which are holding HUGE and fun events today to celebrate 826 Day. You can also sign up to volunteer while you’re there.

Happy 826 Day, everyone! We hope you’ll join the fun, get published, and support youth literacy today.
