Follow My Lead

As I lead with pride and tears drift from my eyes I shout we are a family - we are a team that can’t be broken in between here and there - we stand today with our lives on the line to make changes not just for us but also for other folks down the line - we came too far to be looking back - hold your shoulders high and grip your straps - marching up rough roads cutting down these streets - our bodies striving for something to eat - so many things we have to spot because if not we will get knocked down and that can be a big loss - for the ones who fought hard walking hundreds of miles - I yell keep up before you get lost stand for something or you’ll fall for anything - as night falls that’s when we start to creep - day time’s over boys ain’t no time to sleep - as we get in position the faster our hearts beat - every second that passes, the quicker we dig in our heels and move fast - setting the horses free searching for their stash - our traveling time has now passed - load up fellows quick move fast - we are squad deep with rage I command aim and shoot - guns spark with a flash end loud with a boom blast - bodies dropping quicker than flies as we are stunned by our vision of such a surprise – the longer we listen we begin to move wise.
This is a piece from We Turned Back To See Where We Came From, a recent publication from 826 Boston.
